Please add your own course name candidates, or send them to Chris, who will put them up here. Then come back to vote for your favourite! The deadline for name proposals is this Friday. You're allowed to vote for as many as you like, and you can change your votes right up until they are counted. (Please don't change anyone else's vote!)

Note: Course name should not include the word "permaculture", since it isn't a permaculture course and we are not certified to teach such a course.

How to vote: Click the edit button above, then cast your vote right under the proposals you like, starting the line with ** . You may vote for several proposals. If you have long comments (more that a just few words), you can use the discussion page by clicking on "discussion" above. You can sign you vote, or not, it's up to you.

Update: Since the list is getting somewhat crowded by less serious (but very funny) propositions, I propose that we move the less serious ones down so that the list stays clear. I'll let people move their own suggestions down if they meant them to be funny (it would be unfortunate if I moved one down that was meant to be serious!).

  • MUST (Montreal Urban Sustainability Training)
    • +1, I like this one. Queuetue 00:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
    • +1, I like this one as well! stef. i assume the +1 is a vote. (Often on Internet votes, +1 means I vote yes, -1 I vote no and no number means no vote, even though you wanted to make a comment. Queuetue 10:10, 19 November 2008 (EST))
    • +1, this is cute! Kudos to everyone for the names, they're amazing!!
    • +1 This is straightforward and has a nice acronym. But I agree that it would be nice to avoid the S word.
    • +1 i would really like for us to avoid using 'Sustainability' but we seem to be down to two choices and between MUST and MUSE i prefer MUST MaRiOn 16:12, 22 November 2008 (EST)
    • +1 I like this one cuz: it accurately describes what participants can expect to get from the course, it's edgy and rude in a self-conscious way ("You MUST adopt more intelligent ways of living otherwise you're royally screwed."), I can think of it as a Montreal Urban Survival Training and in that way it can appeal to my collapse (I mean, Great Shift) preparation leanings.Ed 13:50, 23 November 2008 (EST)
      • i really like montreal urban survival training! Stef 10:41, 24 November 2008 (EST)
  • MUSIC (Montreal Urban Sustainability Instruction Course)
    • +1, I like this one, too. Queuetue 00:06, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
    • Nice acronym! But I would be worried that people might be confused and think we were actually doing something about music... rosemary 22:38, 18 November 2008 (EST)
    • I friggin love this one, I really want to encorporate more music in our permapractices but I agree that it may be confusing too.
  • Urban Ecotaunomy Training or Ecotaunomy Training hi there, i'm trying to avoid using the word sustainability so this is what i was able to come up with so far! keep it up everyone, inSPIRation is everywhere, love, marion
  • ETRE (Ecotaunomy Training for Radical Environmental change) hehe love, marion
  • ETC (Ecotaunomy Training for Caretakers) heheweeeheheehe this is fun but i have to go now! i'll be out of town until thurrsday night late late so permaeducation group see you at 10am mucs friday morning love, marion - sorry i'm not respecting the perma edit rules and writing text in here, i am in a huge rush, gotta go, love!
    • +1 my vote is totally late but i wanted to say that i like this one a lot too, speaks to this being more alternative. Stef 17:43, 22 November 2008 (EST)
  • the permacourse
This one has always worked for me. Queuetue 21:11, 20 November 2008 (EST)
  • nature deficit remediation
  • urban sustainability education
    • Could be interesting to explore how our interactions are often assessments of "use" and not explorations between beings of inherent value and beauty. Could be a chance to reclaim the word?
  • the montreal urban sustainability project

    • Oh yeah, the boomshizzy definitely gets my vote! rosemary 10:55, 20 November 2008 (EST)
  • GRASP (Grassroots Radical Applied Sustainability Project)
  • SEE (Sustainable Environmental Education)
  • GREEN (Grassroots Radical Environmental Education Now)
  • MUSE: Montreal Urban Sustainability Education
    • +1 This one's actually pretty nice! rosemary 23:23, 20 November 2008 (EST)
    • +1 I like this one too, it's beautiful. Not too hardcore, more loving and creative. :o)
    • +1 I like this one. It seems to capture both the urgency and the creativity that we're trying to bring to the course. But it might be confusing for those that just see the accronym...
    • +1, I prefer this one to MUST, which is either an unpleasant smell or a indication of obligation, neither of which I think should have anything to do with our course :P I also like the idea of inspiration. Chris | (talk)
    • +1 I like both MUSE and MUST (which has a third meaning, the one I think of is the first pressing of the grape, with the natural yeasts intact.) Queuetue 14:40, 23 November 2008 (EST)
  • The anti-copyright permaculture course
  • Training for the transition
  • The chickweed school: a permaculture-based approach to living in the city

Discussion

A note on the word sustainable/sustainability. I totally understand the reluctance to use the word, in that it has become a buzzword and is way overused in a lot of contexts. But I also feel like we're trying to attract people to our course here, and sustainability is a word people recognize and understand, much more so than ecotaunomy, which is an awesome word, but which I think some people just wouldn't get. I just think that for the sake of clarity and comprehensibility, we should not try to exclude sustainable/ility from our course title, unless we can come up with another word that everyone will understand equally well that gets the point across. Just my thoughts on the matter! (and I put them here because I seriously doubt if anyone will check the actual discussion page :-) rosemary 17:50, 22 November 2008 (EST)
