Who we are

We are becoming a centre of education, of resource- and skill-sharing, a gathering place for energy, ideas and motivation. As an urban-based group, we are particularly interested in researching, developing and promoting earth-regenerating practises that are suited for Montreal's unique environment. We seek to empower people to make their communities as self-sufficient as possible, so that they are better able to provide adequate food, water, energy, and waste-management systems, as we enter an era of declining resources.

Activities

Every week, we work to educate ourselves and others on how to live more sustainably, lower our impact on the world, and raise our understanding and awareness of the environment around us. We see gardens and communities alike as whole living organisms, and we strive to share the tools and knowledge that will help to build a healthier, more equitable world.

Our activities are open to all and for the most part offered free of charge. To find out about upcoming events, see current activities.

History

The MPG was founded in January 2008 as a meetup. The first major project undertaken by the guild was a rooftop and courtyard garden at the MUCS space in N.D.G. It was implemented with the help of Action Communiterre. The garden was made using self-watering containers. It provided some of the food used by MUCS dining coop, created a verdant environment for diners to enjoy eating in and served as a uniting project to help the group build trust and affinity for each other.
In the Summer and Fall of 2008 we started holding regular free skillshares and workshops. Topics covered included beekeeping, fermentation, rocket-stove and self-watering containers.

Current projects

We are currently offering the Montreal Urban Sustainability Education course that started in January and will continue throughout this year.
